Marion County, FL (December 8, 2024) – A fatal crash occurred on Interstate 75 at mile marker 372 near the Alachua County line on Friday, claiming the life of a driver and critically injuring a passenger.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a northbound pickup truck traveling in the center lane of I-75. For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered left, traveling off the roadway in a northwesterly direction. The truck crossed the west paved shoulder, entered the center grass median, and struck a guardrail.
Troopers stated that the impact caused the vehicle to rotate counter-clockwise before overturning onto its left side, where it came to a final rest. The driver, a 54-year-old man from Reddick, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities noted he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The passenger, a 33-year-old woman also from Reddick, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
