Santa Barbara, CA (December 7, 2024) – A fatal traffic collision occurred on southbound US101 near the San Ysidro Rd offramp at approximately 9:49 PM. The crash involved a motorcycle and the right-hand shoulder (RHS) of the road, resulting in a fatality. The motorcycle collided with the right side of the roadway, and the rider was found unresponsive. Emergency responders from Santa Barbara Fire and Rescue attempted to administer CPR at the scene, but despite their efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries.
The collision caused significant disruptions to traffic, with both the #2 lane and the San Ysidro offramp being closed for investigation. Debris was reported in the right lane, and fire crews were on scene assisting in the recovery process. A hard closure was implemented to allow for investigation and evidence collection, with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office (SBSO) and the coroner’s office handling the scene. Tow services were also dispatched to remove the vehicle.
