Washington Township, NJ (December 6, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Thursday evening on Ganttown Rd in Gloucester County, where a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle. The incident took place shortly before 5:15 PM near the intersection of Ganttown Rd, Egg Harbor Rd, and Bells Lake Rd.
According to Washington Township police, a 79-year-old Turnersville man was walking in the eastbound lane of Ganttown Rd when he was hit by an SUV driven by a Glendora woman. Emergency responders transported the man to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
The driver remained at the scene and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not announced any charges at this time. Ganttown Rd was closed for approximately two hours following the crash as police conducted a thorough investigation. Efforts to locate witnesses or obtain surveillance footage have so far been unsuccessful.
