Pelican Twp, MN (December 6, 2024) – A head-on collision occurred on U.S. Highway 59 at Mile Marker 244 in Pelican Township, Otter Tail County, on December 5, 2024, at approximately 6:14 PM. The crash involved a 2004 Toyota RAV4 and a 2008 Honda Civic.
The Toyota RAV4, driven by 28-year-old Mercedes De Los Angeles Morales Mondragon from Pelican Rapids, MN, was traveling northbound on Highway 59 when it collided head-on with the southbound Honda Civic, driven by 55-year-old Steven Andrew Kieffer, also from Pelican Rapids, MN.
Morales Mondragon sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Detroit Lakes Hospital for treatment. Kieffer, on the other hand, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sanford Hospital for further medical care. Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and no alcohol is believed to have been involved in the crash.
