Johnson, MO (December 4, 2024) – A serious collision occurred on MO 2 Highway at SE 301 in Johnson County on the morning of December 4th, 2024, at approximately 7:42 AM. The crash involved a 2020 Peterbilt truck and a 2018 Chevrolet vehicle.

According to the investigation, the driver of the Peterbilt, a 44-year-old male from Warrensburg, MO, failed to stop at the intersection, resulting in a collision with the driver’s side of the Chevrolet, which was being driven by a 65-year-old male from Leeton, MO. The Chevrolet was traveling westbound when it was struck.

The crash caused extensive damage to the Peterbilt truck, while the Chevrolet was totaled. Emergency responders from the Johnson County Ambulance District (JCAD) were quick to transport the 65-year-old driver of the Chevrolet to Western Missouri Medical Center for treatment of moderate injuries. The driver of the Peterbilt was uninjured.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene— the Peterbilt by Don’s Truck Towing and the Chevrolet by Tip Top Towing. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene and is conducting the investigation into the incident.

Intersection Accidents in Missouri

Intersection collisions, such as the one that occurred in Johnson County, are unfortunately common. These types of accidents typically result from drivers failing to yield or obey traffic signs, as was the case here. When drivers run stop signs or miss signals at intersections, they put themselves and others at significant risk of severe injury.

In Missouri, the law requires drivers to always yield the right of way when approaching an intersection, especially when a stop sign is in place. In this case, the failure to stop at the intersection directly led to the crash and injuries. It’s crucial for all drivers to approach intersections with caution, checking for other vehicles before proceeding through.

Drivers should also ensure their vehicles are in good working condition, with properly functioning brakes and lights, to avoid any preventable collisions. Given the severe nature of truck accidents, commercial drivers must take extra care when operating large vehicles, particularly when approaching busy intersections.

Local Accident Reports urges drivers to always stay alert, follow traffic rules, and drive defensively, especially at intersections. If involved in a similar accident, it is essential to receive medical care immediately, regardless of injury severity, and consult with legal professionals to understand the next steps.
