Jefferson, MO (December 2, 2024) – At 5:22 PM on December 1, 2024, a multi-vehicle rear-end collision occurred at the intersection of Southbound Missouri 141 and Fiedler Lane. The incident involved four vehicles, with the initial crash caused by the driver of a 1991 Ford F150. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicles had been stopped at a red light in the right lane when the Ford F150, driven by a 27-year-old male from Arnold, MO, became distracted by a passenger in the vehicle. As the light turned green, the driver of the Ford F150 applied the brakes too late, colliding with the rear of a 2008 Honda CRV. The impact caused a chain reaction, pushing the Honda into a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, and the Impala into a 2011 Ford Edge. Emergency responders from Rock Township Ambulance District arrived on scene, transporting a 24-year-old female passenger in the Ford F150 to Mercy Hospital South with injuries. No other occupants required hospitalization, and all vehicles were driven from the scene.
Rear-End Collisions and Distracted Driving in Missouri
Rear-end collisions are a common hazard on Missouri’s roadways, and this crash highlights the significant danger posed by distracted driving. In this case, a momentary lapse in attention resulted in a chain reaction that involved four vehicles. Distracted driving, whether from passengers, mobile devices, or other sources, is a growing concern across the state.
The Missouri Department of Transportation continues to stress the importance of staying alert while driving, especially in areas where traffic lights and signals dictate the flow of vehicles. The quick response from emergency crews likely prevented more serious injuries, but this accident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of losing focus behind the wheel.
With multiple vehicles involved, this crash also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe following distance, even at intersections. When the light changes, drivers should ensure they have enough space to react safely to any potential hazards.
We send our thoughts to the injured passenger, and hope for a full recovery.
