Lincoln County, MO (November 30, 2024) – A devastating head-on collision occurred Saturday morning on MO-79, north of Route C, resulting in one fatality and injuries to two others. The crash, which took place around 10:15 AM, involved a 2006 Pontiac G6 and a 2024 Hyundai Venue.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Pontiac G6, driven by a 19-year-old male from Elsberry, MO, crossed the centerline into the path of the Hyundai Venue, driven by a 70-year-old female from Winfield, MO. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing extensive damage to both.
The Hyundai’s passenger, a 75-year-old male from Winfield, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:58 PM at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital – Lake St. Louis. The driver of the Hyundai suffered moderate injuries, while the driver of the Pontiac sustained minor injuries. Both surviving individuals were transported by Lincoln County Ambulance to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital for treatment.
MSGT. A. J. Mayer, along with the Major Crash Investigation Unit #2, is leading the investigation. Authorities are working to determine the factors that contributed to the accident.
