Greensboro, NC (November 1, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 40 East on Wednesday night, resulting in the death of a woman. At approximately 9:23 p.m., officers from the Greensboro Police Department responded to reports of the fatal crash, which took place east of West Wendover Avenue.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Nissan Rogue, driven by Krystal Pearson, was stopped in an I-40 lane for an unknown reason. A 2019 Ford Transit was traveling in the same lane and, despite swerving to avoid a collision, struck the stopped Nissan.
At some point during the incident, Pearson exited her vehicle. Following this, a Nissan Sentra collided with Pearson’s Rogue. Subsequently, a Toyota Camry rear-ended a Toyota Prius, which then hit the Rogue and Pearson, who was standing outside her vehicle. Tragically, Pearson succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
All other drivers and passengers involved in the crash, except for one, were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities from the Greensboro Police Department have stated that impairment is not believed to have contributed to the crash, and the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
