El Paso County, CO (November 27, 2024) – A tragic crash on I-25 north of Colorado Springs resulted in a fatality on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the Baptist Exit, leading to significant traffic delays throughout the morning. Emergency responders from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) worked quickly to clear the scene, and by 2:30 p.m., all lanes of traffic had been reopened.

The crash began as a two-vehicle collision involving a Jeep and a Subaru. The vehicles involved in the initial crash were moved to the shoulder, and the drivers were in the process of exchanging information when a pickup truck, traveling at a high rate of speed, entered the scene. The truck collided with the Jeep and Subaru, resulting in a secondary crash. Tragically, one of the individuals from the original crash was struck by the Subaru Outback during this secondary collision. The person was thrown into the southbound lanes of I-25, where they were run over by oncoming traffic. Despite the best efforts of emergency responders, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The deceased person’s identity has not been publicly released, and CSP continues to investigate the incident. Authorities believe that some drivers involved in the crash may have fled the scene. CSP is urging anyone with information about the crash to come forward and contact them at 719-544-2424.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased victim.

Traffic Accidents in El Paso County

This devastating incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers that can occur on busy highways, especially when multiple crashes happen in quick succession. With speeds high and traffic conditions changing rapidly, accidents like this can have severe, and often tragic, consequences. The fatality that resulted from the secondary crash is particularly tragic, as it underscores the unpredictability of driving conditions and the importance of driving safely, even after an initial accident.

In this case, the presence of speed, secondary crashes, and potential hit-and-run activity raises awareness for all drivers about the importance of remaining alert, obeying traffic laws, and following the proper procedures in the event of a collision. Drivers should never leave the scene of an accident, as failure to do so can worsen the consequences of an already dangerous situation.
