Washington County, NC (November 26, 2024) – A fatal crash occurred Monday evening on Highway 32, south of Highway 99, in Washington County. The crash involved a box truck and a log truck and resulted in the death of 59-year-old Michelangelo Fields, of Plymouth. Fields was killed when his box truck was struck head-on by the log truck, which had crossed the centerline. Tragically, Fields was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the log truck, 73-year-old George Bailey of Washington, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment. The highway was closed for approximately three and a half hours while authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances of the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
