Bryan, TX (November 25, 2024) – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Saturday evening, November 23, at the intersection of FM 974 and FM 2038. The tragic incident left one person dead and four others seriously injured.

According to DPS, the crash happened around 6:50 PM when a Dodge Ram 1500 traveling west on FM 974 failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection and struck a tree. The driver sustained minor injuries, but 18-year-old Norma Flores of Bryan, who was the front seat passenger, was critically injured. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Four additional passengers in the vehicle were also transported to local hospitals with suspected serious injuries. Emergency responders worked quickly to provide care to the victims at the scene before coordinating their transportation for further treatment.

The incident remains under investigation by Texas DPS to determine the exact circumstances and contributing factors.

The thoughts and condolences of the community are with the family and friends of Norma Flores during this devastating time, and best wishes are extended for the recovery of the injured.

Fatal Crashes in Texas

Texas has one of the highest rates of traffic-related fatalities in the country, with rural intersections being common sites of severe accidents. Intersections like FM 974 and FM 2038 can pose risks due to limited visibility, high speeds, and drivers failing to adhere to traffic signs and signals.

In accidents involving stop sign violations, the likelihood of severe injuries or fatalities increases significantly, particularly in rural areas where emergency response times may be longer. Tragically, incidents like this one highlight the devastating consequences of even momentary lapses in judgment while driving.

First responders and agencies like Texas DPS work tirelessly to address these tragedies, investigate their causes, and promote roadway safety. Preventative measures, such as obeying traffic signals and maintaining awareness at intersections, are essential in reducing the risk of such accidents.

For those affected by fatal accidents, understanding their rights and seeking support is crucial in navigating the aftermath of these tragedies. Families dealing with loss or injuries often face legal, financial, and emotional challenges that require careful consideration.
