Isle of Wight, VA (November 25, 2024) – Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly crash that occurred on Saturday evening, November 23, in Isle of Wight. The tragic incident happened just before 5 p.m. on Foursquare Rd, north of Tings Rd, and involved two vehicles.
When troopers arrived at the scene, they found 44-year-old Tariq Holloman of Newport News, who had suffered fatal injuries. Sadly, Mr. Holloman was pronounced deceased before he could be transported to the hospital. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as a Volkswagen Jetta, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to authorities, preliminary findings indicate that Mr. Holloman, driving a Dodge Charger southbound on Foursquare Rd, crossed the double solid lines into the northbound lane. This resulted in a head-on collision with the Jetta. Investigators have identified speed as a contributing factor in the crash and are working to determine whether alcohol also played a role.
Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. The road remained closed for several hours on Saturday evening as officials worked to clear the scene and gather evidence. No further updates on the condition of the injured driver have been released.
The Isle of Wight community mourns the loss of Tariq Holloman and hopes for the recovery of the injured driver.
Car Accidents in Virginia
Serious car accidents, like the one reported on Foursquare Rd, are an ongoing concern in Virginia. Head-on collisions often lead to severe injuries or fatalities due to the high impact of such crashes. In rural areas, where roads may have limited visibility or fewer safety features, speed and driver decisions are significant contributing factors.
Foursquare Rd and Tings Rd are common thoroughfares in Isle of Wight, connecting local communities and commuters. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution, obey speed limits, and remain aware of their surroundings, especially on roads with narrow lanes and limited passing zones.
