Oconomowoc, WI (November 23, 2024) – A serious train-car collision in downtown Oconomowoc Friday afternoon resulted in injuries and prompted extensive road closures. The incident occurred at the intersection of Main Avenue and Second Street.
According to the Western Lakes Fire District, a northbound car on Main Avenue was struck by a freight train, ricocheting off the tracks upon impact. Emergency crews extricated one individual from the vehicle, who was then transported to a local trauma center for treatment. The extent of the injuries has not yet been disclosed.
The collision caused significant damage, including the destruction of an emergency gate that subsequently impacted another vehicle waiting at the intersection. The freight train also blocked multiple crossings in downtown Oconomowoc, from Chafee Rd to Highway 67.
