University Park, TX (November 23, 2024) – A devastating five-car collision at the intersection of Lovers Ln and Preston Rd on Friday evening resulted in the death of one woman and left a man critically injured. The crash has left the community shaken as authorities continue their investigation.
The tragic incident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. when a Chevy Silverado, reportedly traveling at high speeds, ran a red light while heading eastbound on Lovers Ln. The truck collided with a vehicle traveling north on Preston Rd, pushing the impacted car into three other vehicles that were stopped at the intersection.
Witnesses reported that the driver of the Silverado attempted to flee the scene but was momentarily detained by a bystander before escaping again. University Park Police located and arrested the suspect about a block away on Tulane St.
The vehicle struck directly by the Silverado carried a man and a woman. The woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, while the man sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Two additional individuals involved in the collision were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims. Investigators are working to determine all contributing factors to the crash, including whether impairment or other violations played a role.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased victim. We also wish a full recovery to those injured in this tragic event.
Multi-Car Accidents in Texas
Multi-vehicle crashes, like the one at Lovers Ln and Preston Rd, are often catastrophic due to the high speed and chain-reaction impacts involved. Intersections are especially dangerous, as red-light violations are a leading cause of severe collisions in Texas. Speeding, distraction, and reckless behavior are common factors in accidents of this nature.
In University Park and similar urban areas, the combination of heavy traffic and high speeds can lead to devastating outcomes. Friday’s crash serves as a somber reminder of the importance of obeying traffic signals and practicing safe driving behaviors.
In cases where a driver attempts to flee the scene, legal consequences can be severe. Fleeing not only compounds the tragedy but also creates additional challenges for victims and investigators. Texas law requires drivers to remain at the scene of an accident to assist those injured and cooperate with authorities.
