Honolulu, HI (November 22, 2024) – A Honolulu Police Department (HPD) solo bike officer is hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle on Farrington Hwy in the Kapolei area Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near Laaloa St and Kamokila Community Park.
Authorities reported that a 61-year-old driver pulled into the right shoulder lane and collided with the officer, who was also traveling in the shoulder lane. The collision caused the officer to be thrown onto the roadway. Fortunately, the officer was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, which likely mitigated the severity of his injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The 61-year-old driver and his two juvenile passengers were uninjured. HPD stated that neither speed, drugs, nor alcohol appeared to be factors in the crash. The reason why the driver veered into the shoulder remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured officer, and we hope for his full and swift recovery.
