Sainte Genevieve, MO (November 22, 2024) – A serious two-vehicle collision occurred late Thursday night on northbound Interstate 55 at mile marker 163, leaving one driver with severe injuries. The crash was reported at approximately 9:41 PM and involved a Mazda 3 and a Kia Optima.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2018 Kia Optima, driven by a 30-year-old female from Ste. Genevieve, MO, crossed the center line and struck the rear of a 2014 Mazda 3. Following the collision, the Kia veered off the roadway, striking a rock bluff before overturning. The Mazda sustained moderate damage, while the Kia was totaled in the crash.
Emergency responders, including the Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District provided care to the injured driver of the Kia, who was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. She sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital South for treatment. The 19-year-old female driver of the Mazda, from St. Charles, MO, was reportedly uninjured and had been wearing a safety device.
