Jefferson County, MO (November 21, 2024) – A rear-end collision on Interstate 55 south of US 67 Wednesday evening resulted in injuries for a teenage passenger. The crash occurred around 5:40 p.m., according to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
The incident involved a 2013 Ford Escape driven by a 17-year-old male from Sainte Genevieve and a 2003 Ford F150 driven by a 39-year-old female from Festus. Authorities reported that the Ford Escape struck the rear of the Ford F150 while both vehicles were traveling southbound.
The Ford Escape sustained total damage and was towed from the scene, while the F150 had minor damage and was driven away. A 17-year-old female occupant of the Ford Escape suffered injuries and was transported by private conveyance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson for treatment.
Law enforcement is investigating the circumstances leading to the crash, which highlights the risks of following too closely on busy roadways. Traffic was temporarily impacted as crews cleared the scene.
