Newton County, MO (November 21, 2024) – A tragic accident involving a train and a dump truck occurred Wednesday morning near Lime Kiln Dr and Hector Ln, approximately five miles north of Neosho. The collision, which took place at around 8:19 AM, resulted in the death of a 62-year-old Joplin man.
The crash involved a Kansas City Southern train car traveling south and a Peterbilt dump truck heading west on a private road. According to reports, the dump truck entered the railroad crossing, marked with a stop sign and a railroad crossing sign, into the path of the oncoming train. The train struck the side of the dump truck, causing catastrophic damage.

The driver of the dump truck was transported to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, where he was pronounced deceased at 10:09 AM by Dr. Veer.
