Yakima, WA (November 19, 2024) – Three people were hospitalized following a two-car crash on Interstate 82 near milepost 34 late Monday night. The collision, which occurred around 10:56 p.m., prompted a swift response from the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and emergency services.
Authorities report that both vehicles, a Ford Fusion and a Nissan Rogue, were traveling eastbound on I-82 when the driver of the Ford, a 35-year-old man from Richland, struck the Nissan. The impact caused the Nissan to roll, eventually landing upside down on the right shoulder of the roadway. The Ford then collided with a cable barrier before coming to a stop in the median.
The Nissan’s driver, a 56-year-old woman from Harrah, and her two passengers—a 68-year-old man and an 18-year-old girl, also from Harrah—suffered injuries and were transported to a Yakima hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford sustained no serious injuries.
Preliminary findings by WSP indicate that the crash was caused by driving too fast for the conditions. Investigators also suspect that DUI charges may be filed against the Ford driver pending further investigation.
Our thoughts are with those injured and their families during this difficult time.
DUI-Related Accidents in Washington State
Driving under the influence (DUI) remains a significant concern on Washington’s roadways. Accidents caused by impaired drivers can lead to devastating consequences, as seen in the crash on I-82. Speeding, combined with impaired judgment, increases the likelihood of severe injuries and property damage in such collisions.
The Washington State Patrol actively enforces DUI laws and conducts awareness campaigns to reduce impaired driving incidents. Despite these efforts, DUI-related crashes continue to pose risks to innocent drivers and passengers across the state.
For victims and their families, the aftermath of such accidents can be overwhelming, involving medical expenses, emotional trauma, and legal complexities. Accessing support and resources is vital to navigating this challenging time and seeking justice.
