Rankin Co., MS (November 18, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle accident in Rankin County claimed one life and left five others injured Saturday evening. Emergency crews, including Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) troopers, responded to the scene on U.S. 49 North near Star Rd at approximately 6:12 p.m.
The crash involved a 2024 Hyundai Palisade and a 2000 Grand Pontiac. According to officials, the Hyundai Palisade was driven by 78-year-old John Woodward of Brandon, with three passengers: 72-year-old Ira Ott, 73-year-old Betty Ott, and 71-year-old Donna Woodward, all also from Brandon. The Grand Pontiac was driven by 21-year-old Gracie Blakeney of Taylorsville, with 36-year-old Ashley Holloman of Waynesboro as a passenger.
Authorities stated that the Hyundai was traveling north on U.S. 49 when the Pontiac entered the roadway and collided with it. Tragically, Ashley Holloman was pronounced deceased at the scene due to her injuries. Emergency responders transported John Woodward, his three passengers, and Gracie Blakeney to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) in Jackson. Their injuries remain unspecified at this time.
