Humboldt, KS (November 18, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision early Monday morning claimed the life of a 57-year-old Humboldt man and left another driver seriously injured. The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. on 800th Road, approximately one mile west of Humboldt.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP), a Dodge Dakota driven by Eric L. Guenther, 57, was traveling northbound on 800th Road when it began to spin and collided head-on with a southbound Ford Ranger. The impact caused the Ranger to catch fire.
Guenther was transported to Allen County Regional Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 53-year-old Humboldt man, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital for treatment. Both drivers were confirmed to have been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, but no additional details have been released at this time.
