Watson, MO (November 18, 2024) – A tragic four-vehicle collision on Interstate 29 near Watson, Missouri, early Sunday morning resulted in three fatalities and multiple injuries. Emergency responders and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were on the scene to manage the aftermath of this devastating accident.
The crash occurred around 7:22 AM when a Kia Sorento and a Chevrolet Tahoe were traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of I-29. The Kia collided head-on with a northbound Ford Focus, causing both vehicles to veer off the roadway. The Kia struck a bridge abutment and caught fire, while the Ford overturned, ejecting one of its passengers.
A Volvo semi-tractor-trailer, attempting to avoid the collision, lost control and struck the Chevrolet. Both the semi and the Chevrolet ended up in the median of the interstate. The sequence of events left significant damage across all four vehicles.
Tragically, two 18-year-olds in the Ford Focus and the 29-year-old driver of the Kia were pronounced deceased at the scene. All three individuals were from Kearney, MO. Another passenger in the Ford, a 1-year-old boy, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe sustained minor injuries and was also hospitalized. The driver of the Volvo semi was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the factors contributing to this catastrophic collision.
