Seminole, OK (November 18, 2024) – A two-car crash in Seminole County on Saturday afternoon resulted in one fatality and two injuries. The collision occurred at around 5:00 PM on EW-1240 Road when 62-year-old Kay Hasbell, traveling westbound, failed to yield at a stop sign. This led to another vehicle colliding with hers at the intersection.

Nathan Meaders, a 62-year-old passenger in the second vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Despite the tragic loss, the driver of that vehicle and Hasbell were both reported to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Hasbell, who sustained injuries to her lower extremities, was transported to OU Medical Center and is currently in stable condition.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol confirmed that both drivers had “normal” conditions, and their seatbelt use likely helped mitigate further injuries. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash further.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Nathan Meaders during this difficult time.

Car Accidents in Oklahoma

Accidents like the one on EW-1240 Road serve as a somber reminder of the importance of yielding at stop signs and obeying traffic signals. In rural areas like Seminole County, where intersections may be less monitored, drivers must remain especially vigilant. Despite both drivers in this incident wearing seat belts, the fatality of a passenger emphasizes the unpredictable nature of collisions and how quickly accidents can turn tragic.

While seat belts significantly reduce the risk of serious injury, they are no guarantee of safety. For those traveling in Oklahoma, it’s essential to approach intersections with caution, even when traffic appears clear. The crash on EW-1240 Road reminds us of the importance of defensive driving, particularly when it comes to yielding the right of way at intersections.
