Deep River, CT (November 17, 2024) – A tragic house fire claimed the life of one person on Saturday evening in the quiet community of Deep River. Emergency crews responded to the blaze at a home on West Bridge Lane at approximately 6:15 p.m., according to state police.
Firefighters from several nearby departments worked together to extinguish the flames, while a neighbor attempted to intervene before the fire crews arrived. Joseph Kostenko, a nearby resident, described the harrowing scene.
“As soon as I walked out my backdoor, I saw flames,” Kostenko recounted. “I thought it was a leaf fire at first or maybe a bonfire, but as soon as I realized how big it was, I grabbed my fire extinguisher and ran to help.”
Despite these efforts, the fire tragically resulted in the death of one individual whose identity has not yet been released. The circumstances surrounding the start of the fire are under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim as they cope with this devastating loss.
