Big Lake, MN (November 15, 2024) – A two-vehicle accident on westbound Highway 10 at Eagle Lake Rd in Sherburne County on Friday evening resulted in one individual sustaining non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred around 8:08 PM when a 2016 Ford F150, traveling eastbound on Highway 10, collided with a 2021 Jeep Compass heading westbound at the intersection with Eagle Lake Rd. Emergency responders from Big Lake Police Department, Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, Big Lake Fire Department, and CentraCare Ambulance quickly arrived on the scene to assist.

Michael Jonathon Stromberg, 51, of Big Lake, MN, the driver of the Jeep Compass, was transported to Monticello Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The airbags in his vehicle deployed during the collision, likely mitigating the severity of his injuries. The driver of the Ford F150, Victoria Renee Hammer, 76, of Starbuck, MN, was not injured in the crash. Both drivers were reported to have been wearing seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor.

The crash caused temporary delays as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. Our thoughts are with the injured individual as they recover.

Car Accidents in Minnesota

Collisions like the one in Big Lake serve as reminders of the inherent risks of travel on busy highways such as Highway 10. Intersections, particularly those involving high-speed traffic, are frequent sites of serious crashes. While both drivers in this incident were wearing seat belts, ensuring a measure of safety, such accidents can still result in injuries due to the forces involved.

Minnesota roadways see a significant volume of traffic daily, with weather and visibility often impacting conditions. Though this crash occurred under dry conditions, driver attentiveness and adherence to traffic laws remain essential for preventing accidents. Initiatives such as enhanced traffic signage and public safety campaigns aim to improve road safety for all.

If you or someone you know has been involved in a car accident, understanding your rights and accessing resources for recovery are important steps. Medical treatment and legal guidance can help address the physical, emotional, and financial challenges that may arise following a crash.
