St. Johns County, FL (November 16, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck and six other vehicles occurred on I-95 South near mile marker 330, close to the Duval-St. Johns County line, Friday evening. The collision left a 38-year-old woman from St. Augustine seriously injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
The crash was reported around 5:58 PM. FHP stated that all seven vehicles were traveling southbound on I-95 when traffic in the inside lane began to slow down. A 53-year-old North Carolina driver operating a sedan in the inside lane attempted to change lanes, violating the right of way of the semi-truck in the middle lane.
The sedan’s right rear collided with the semi-truck’s right front, causing the semi to strike the guardrail, jackknife, and overturn. The incident triggered a chain reaction, involving five additional vehicles in successive collisions.
Emergency responders transported the St. Augustine woman to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. A 74-year-old man from Canada sustained minor injuries. No other injuries were reported among the other drivers and passengers.
The crash caused extensive delays, with the southbound lanes of I-95 remaining blocked until approximately 2:00 AM on Saturday as crews worked to clear the scene.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this serious collision, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Florida
Florida’s major highways, like I-95, are frequent sites of serious accidents involving multiple vehicles. High-speed travel, sudden traffic slowdowns, and heavy congestion contribute to the risk of crashes in these areas. When a collision involves a semi-truck, the potential for severe injuries and extensive damage increases significantly.
Chain-reaction accidents, like this one, demonstrate how one incident can rapidly escalate, endangering numerous drivers. Thorough investigations, such as those conducted by the FHP, are essential to determining fault and preventing future collisions.
For those injured in crashes, the recovery process often involves significant medical expenses, loss of income, and emotional trauma. Accessing medical care and understanding legal rights is critical to managing these challenges effectively.
