Santa Clarita, CA (November 16, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle collision occurred this morning on Interstate 5 (I-5) southbound near Templin Hwy, involving an overturned semi-truck and several passenger vehicles. The crash was first reported at approximately 11:14 AM and resulted in extensive lane closures and traffic disruptions.
Emergency responders from California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived at the scene to assist with injuries and manage traffic. The semi-truck, loaded with pistachios, overturned and blocked multiple lanes, causing damage to a 70-foot section of guard rail. Other vehicles involved included a gray Honda CR-V, a brown Dodge truck, and a red Chevrolet Camaro. The driver of the semi-truck was initially trapped but managed to exit the vehicle with assistance.
Three lanes (#1, #2, and #3) were closed for several hours, with only the #4 lane remaining open. Tow trucks, including heavy-duty services from LM Towing, were dispatched to clear the semi-truck and other vehicles from the roadway. A SigAlert was issued, advising motorists of significant delays and recommending alternate routes.
The crash is currently under investigation by CHP to determine the cause of the accident. Reports confirmed at least one party sustained injuries and received medical attention.
