Houston, TX (November 16, 2024) – A serious collision involving an 18-wheeler and a small silver car on the South Beltway service road near S Sam Houston Tollway left two drivers hospitalized and caused a power outage for nearby businesses on Friday afternoon.
According to law enforcement, the crash occurred when the silver car allegedly ran a red light, prompting the eastbound semi-truck to attempt to avoid it. Despite the effort, the truck struck the car and subsequently slammed into a power line. The force of the collision left the truck heavily damaged and resting on the grassy median.
Bystanders rushed to assist the truck driver, helping him escape the wreckage. The driver of the silver car was reportedly in more critical condition and was transported to the hospital in serious condition. The truck driver also required hospitalization for injuries sustained in the crash.
The accident caused a widespread power outage in the area, plunging nearby businesses into darkness. Traffic on the South Beltway itself was unaffected, though the crash scene prompted activity and concern in the surrounding area.
The incident is under investigation by the Precinct 7 Deputy Constables Office. Updates on the drivers’ conditions and the investigation will be provided as more information becomes available.
We wish a swift recovery to all those injured.
18-Wheeler Accidents in Texas
