Richland, WA (November 15, 2024) – Two people were transported to the hospital following a rear-end collision on I-182 Thursday morning. The crash occurred around 9 a.m. when two vehicles were traveling westbound on I-182, just east of George Washington Way. According to the Washington State Patrol (WSP), the lead vehicle slowed down due to traffic, causing the following vehicle to rear-end it.
Both passengers in the following car sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the drivers of both vehicles were unharmed. However, the driver of the rear-ended vehicle is facing a second-degree negligent driving charge. WSP investigators determined that the crash was caused by inattention and confirmed that neither drugs nor alcohol played a role in the incident.
Rear-End Accidents in Washington
Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of accidents, often resulting from drivers failing to maintain a safe following distance or being distracted. In this case, the driver’s inattention led to the crash, and while the outcome could have been worse, the situation serves as a reminder of the importance of staying alert behind the wheel. Rear-end crashes, even at relatively low speeds, can result in significant damage and injury.
Motorists are encouraged to pay close attention to traffic conditions, maintain proper following distances, and avoid distractions, particularly when driving in high-traffic areas.
