Jefferson County, MO (November 13, 2024) – A serious collision involving two vehicles occurred Tuesday night on the West Outer Road (southbound Interstate 55) near Elm Drive, leaving two individuals injured.

The crash took place at approximately 8:57 PM. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2015 Ford F250 driven by a 54-year-old man from French Village, MO, was traveling southbound on Interstate 55 when it veered off the roadway. The truck struck a cable median, continued down an embankment, and entered the West Outer Road, where it collided with a southbound 2015 Ford Focus driven by a 48-year-old woman from Crystal City, MO. The collision caused the front right of the F250 to strike the rear left of the Focus.

Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene. Emergency responders from the Rock Township Ambulance District transported both drivers to Mercy Hospital South. The driver of the Ford Focus sustained serious injuries, while the driver of the F250 suffered moderate injuries. Both were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we wish them both a full recovery.

Navigating Serious Accidents in Missouri

Missouri highways and outer roads often present unique challenges for drivers, particularly at night when visibility and road conditions may exacerbate risks. This crash on West Outer Road highlights the dangers of losing control and the potential for severe injuries in collisions involving vehicles crossing multiple lanes or barriers.

In Jefferson County and across Missouri, distracted driving, speeding, and road departures remain leading contributors to severe crashes. Safety features like cable medians are designed to minimize impacts, but these accidents demonstrate their limitations in preventing cross-road collisions.

Victims of such incidents often face significant physical, emotional, and financial challenges. It is crucial to seek immediate medical evaluation for all injuries, even those that may not appear severe initially. Additionally, understanding your legal rights and pursuing appropriate compensation can help alleviate financial burdens related to medical costs, vehicle repairs, and other damages.
