Syracuse, NY (November 13, 2024) – Three individuals were hospitalized following a high-speed collision involving an SUV and a box truck on Grant Boulevard, between Helen Street and Darlington Road, late Monday afternoon. The accident occurred around 4 p.m. and involved a reckless SUV that deputies had briefly pursued prior to the crash, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies halted their pursuit of the westbound rental SUV due to its excessive speed, but moments later, the SUV collided with a box truck. The impact caused the box truck to overturn and sheared a utility pole in half, resulting in significant damage. Emergency crews extracted a woman from the SUV and two men from the box truck. All three victims were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Syracuse Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Phillip Vogt.
The driver of the SUV fled the scene on foot and is currently being sought by deputies and Syracuse police. Investigators remain on the scene to determine the full circumstances of the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured individuals, and we wish them a speedy recovery.
