North Charleston, SC (November 13, 2024) – A mother and her two children are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car Tuesday night while crossing Ashley Phosphate Rd at Stall Rd. The accident occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m., temporarily closing all lanes heading toward I-26 for approximately 45 minutes.
North Charleston Police reported that the family was taken to a local hospital for treatment. In the chaos following the accident, the family’s dog ran from the scene. A responding officer located the dog in a nearby motel parking lot, where it ran up to the officer unharmed.
The driver of the vehicle was cited for failure to yield to pedestrians, according to police spokesperson Harve Jacobs. The North Charleston Police Department’s traffic unit continues to investigate the incident.
Pedestrian Safety on South Carolina Roads
Pedestrian accidents, like the one on Ashley Phosphate Rd, highlight the risks individuals face when navigating busy intersections. Factors such as driver inattention, poor lighting, and high traffic volumes often contribute to these incidents.
Drivers must remain vigilant at pedestrian crossings and adhere to local traffic laws to prevent such collisions. Pedestrians, in turn, should use designated crosswalks and be cautious of oncoming traffic, especially in low-visibility conditions.
If you or a loved one has been injured in an auto-pedestrian accident, seeking medical care and consulting legal resources can help protect your rights and support recovery.
