Torrance, CA (November 13, 2024) – A tragic multi-vehicle accident on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway claimed the lives of two men late Monday night. The crash occurred south of Crenshaw Boulevard at approximately 11:44 PM, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
CHP Officer Sean Lough confirmed the fatalities, and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the victims as 24-year-old Luke Coughlin and 57-year-old Gregory Coughlin. Authorities have not determined the relationship between the two men. There was no immediate word on whether others were injured or the severity of any additional injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle strike the center divider, sending debris onto the northbound lanes. At least two sedans were involved, and one of the vehicles was overturned during the collision. Emergency responders worked through the night to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances.
A SigAlert was issued at 12:09 AM, closing all southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway between Crenshaw Boulevard and Western Avenue, as well as the Crenshaw Boulevard on-ramp. The lanes reopened at 3:17 AM after extensive cleanup efforts.
