Tempe, AZ (November 12, 2024) – Eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Warner Rd reopened early Tuesday morning following a deadly series of events on Monday evening. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the incident began around 8:30 p.m. when troopers responded to reports of a person running in the westbound lanes of the freeway.
Upon arrival, troopers attempted to detain the individual, who fled across the westbound lanes, jumped over the median, and entered the eastbound lanes. The individual was struck by a car in the process, though the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed. During the arrest, a scuffle broke out between the suspect and the troopers.
Meanwhile, a secondary collision occurred involving two unrelated vehicles. Tragically, a passenger in one of those vehicles was killed. The identities of the deceased and other injured parties have not been released, and the exact circumstances of the crash remain under investigation.
