Lake County, IL (November 12, 2024) – A 33-year-old bicyclist from Mundelein suffered critical, life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car. The incident occurred at the intersection of West Rockland Road and the Des Plaines River walking trail.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the man was riding northbound on the Des Plaines River Trail when he attempted to cross West Rockland Road. A westbound Toyota Prius, driven by a 39-year-old man from Gurnee, struck the bicyclist, throwing him onto the windshield before he fell to the ground.
Emergency responders transported the bicyclist to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the Prius and a child passenger were uninjured in the collision.
