Indianapolis, IN (November 11, 2024) – A tragic crash on Interstate 70 westbound early Sunday morning resulted in the death of an adult female. The Indiana State Police (ISP) responded to reports of a serious crash near mile marker 77 around 12:30 AM.
Upon arrival, troopers discovered three heavily damaged vehicles and multiple stopped cars along both sides of the interstate. They also found the unresponsive woman lying in the roadway, as initially reported. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the woman had struck the outside wall of the interstate with her vehicle, causing it to skid across all lanes of traffic and collide with the inside barrier wall. Her car came to rest partially in the left lane of westbound I-70. Exiting her vehicle, the woman stood beside it when another vehicle struck her car, throwing her into the roadway, where she was struck by a third vehicle.
All drivers involved remained at the scene, and authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The incident caused a full closure of westbound lanes for approximately six hours, with the roadway reopening around 6:30 AM.
ISP continues to investigate this heartbreaking incident, and further details have not yet been released.
