Kent, WA (November 6, 2024) – A tragic traffic accident occurred on Monday evening, resulting in the death of a woman following a DUI-related crash on Pacific Highway South. The incident took place around 11:37 p.m. on the 22400 block of Pacific Highway South.
According to Kent police, the collision was initiated when a driver attempted a failed U-turn, leading to the fatal crash. Kent Patrol Officers responded promptly to multiple 911 calls reporting a serious two-vehicle accident. Witnesses at the scene indicated that one of the drivers appeared to be intoxicated, and one of the vehicles involved caught fire following the impact.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman unconscious with severe injuries. Despite the efforts of Puget Sound Fire and Medic 1 teams, who administered life-saving measures, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations revealed that a 34-year-old man from Kent was driving a Buick Regal northbound at a high speed. Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man from Tacoma, who admitted to drinking earlier, was operating a Ford Taurus southbound. Witnesses reported that the Taurus attempted a U-turn into the northbound lanes, colliding with the Buick. Officers noted signs of alcohol impairment in both drivers.
The driver of the Buick was taken into custody, while the driver of the Taurus was transported to the hospital for his injuries. A judge has approved a warrant for a blood draw to test for alcohol and drugs in the Taurus driver’s system. The Kent Police Traffic Unit is actively investigating the crash and gathering evidence to determine potential charges.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the woman’s cause of death. Kent Police are urging anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet been interviewed to contact the Kent Police Department Tip Line at 253-856-5808.
