Jackson, OH (November 6, 2024) – A serious two-vehicle crash occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 7:55 a.m. at the intersection of US 35 and Savageville School Road in Jackson County. The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded promptly to the scene following reports of the incident.
The collision involved a red 1995 Mack dump truck driven by 40-year-old Keith Manning from Wellston, Ohio, and a red 2006 Honda Accord driven by 82-year-old Joseph Tanner from Chillicothe, Ohio. Preliminary investigations suggest that Manning was traveling westbound on US 35 when Tanner, who was traveling east, attempted a left turn onto Savageville School Road. Reports indicate that Tanner failed to yield to Manning’s vehicle, leading to the collision.
Following the impact, Tanner’s Honda Accord slid off the left side of the road and came to rest in the median, while Manning’s dump truck was brought to a stop on the right shoulder of US 35 westbound. Unfortunately, Tanner sustained serious injuries in the crash and was initially transported to Holzer Hospital in Jackson by Jackson County Emergency Medical Services. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted to Grant Hospital in Columbus for further treatment. Fortunately, Manning was uninjured in the incident.
The accident necessitated the closure of the westbound left lane of US 35 for approximately one hour as authorities conducted their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The roadway has since been reopened to traffic.
