Concord, NH (November 5, 2024) – A single-vehicle accident occurred on North State Street on Monday evening, resulting in injuries to the driver. The incident was reported shortly after 7 p.m. when a police officer, who was conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of North State Street and Hillcrest Avenue, observed what appeared to be a crash near Abbottville Road and Peabody Street.
As the officer turned around, dispatch began receiving multiple calls about the accident. Additional police units were dispatched to the scene, and the officer requested assistance from Concord Fire and Rescue teams due to the condition of the driver, who was identified as the operator of a Jeep Wrangler registered out of Westmoreland. Reports indicated that the driver was breathing but unresponsive at the time of the officer’s arrival.
In response to the situation, officers closed off North State Street and rerouted traffic around the area. A Merrimack County Sheriff’s Deputy also arrived to assist with traffic control and scene management. Witnesses in nearby vehicles stopped to provide information about the incident, which involved the Jeep crashing into a utility pole and knocking down a stop sign, as well as the Peabody Street sign.
Emergency responders transported the injured driver to Concord Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Initial assessments suggested that driver fatigue might have contributed to the crash.
By 10 p.m., police announced that North State Street was reopened to traffic, and Unitil was called in to make necessary repairs to the damaged utility pole. Fortunately, it was reported that no customers lost power during the incident.
Our thoughts are with the driver involved in this accident, and we hope for a swift recovery.
