Jerome, ID (November 5, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle collision occurred early Tuesday morning on I-84, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old woman from Twin Falls, Idaho. The incident took place at approximately 4:53 a.m. near milepost 171, prompting a response from the Idaho State Police (ISP) and other emergency services.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim was driving a blue 2006 Honda Pilot, which had broken down in the right lane of the interstate. The vehicle was displaying its hazard lights when it was struck from behind by a 2022 Volvo semi-tractor driven by a 63-year-old man from Virginia Beach, Virginia. The impact caused the semi-tractor to turn sideways and crash into the jersey barrier.
Despite wearing a seatbelt, the driver of the Honda Pilot succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The driver of the semi-tractor, who was also wearing a seatbelt, did not require medical treatment and remained unharmed.
Following the collision, the driver of the semi-tractor was arrested on probable cause for felony vehicular manslaughter and booked into the Jerome County Jail.
Due to the severity of the accident, the eastbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for approximately six and a half hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene. Motorists were advised to check for updated road conditions as the westbound lanes remained impacted.
