Pasco County, FL (November 5, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred Monday night involving an ATV, resulting in the death of a passenger. The accident took place around 8:48 p.m. on a private road located behind a Sunoco gas station at 16621 Shady Hills Road. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver lost control of the Polaris side-by-side ATV while driving in circles, which led to the ejection of a 35-year-old man from the right front seat.
Reports indicate that the ATV flipped over, subsequently running over the ejected passenger. Following the incident, the driver, identified as 32-year-old Ford K. Perkins from Spring Hill, fled the scene on foot, leaving his injured passenger behind. The victim later succumbed to his injuries.
Emergency responders quickly located Perkins near the crash site, where he was arrested for DUI manslaughter and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Fortunately, a second passenger, a 24-year-old man from Spring Hill, was present during the incident but did not sustain any injuries.
