Patrick County, VA (November 4, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on November 2, just after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Dry Pond Highway and Hatchers Chapel Road. Virginia State Police are currently investigating the incident, which resulted in one fatality and two injuries.
Preliminary reports indicate that a Ford Ranger was traveling south on Dry Pond Highway when it was unable to avoid colliding with a Jeep Patriot that had pulled onto the highway from Hatchers Chapel Road. The impact caused the Ranger to veer off the right side of the road, while the Jeep came to a stop in the northbound lane.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as 81-year-old John S. Boles from Claudville, tragically died at the scene. It was noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. A 9-year-old boy who was a passenger in the Jeep suffered minor injuries but was wearing his seatbelt during the incident. The driver of the Ford Ranger, 26-year-old Ethan J. Horton from Stuart, also sustained minor injuries and was wearing his seatbelt.
