Florence Township, MI (November 4, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision occurred in St. Joseph County on Sunday morning, resulting in the loss of two lives. At approximately 9:30 a.m. on November 3, authorities were alerted to the crash site on Sevison Road, close to the intersection with Mintdale Road, near the Indiana border.
According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, a northbound Mercedes lost control, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with a southbound pickup truck. The impact was devastating, leading to the immediate death of both the driver and passenger of the pickup truck, who were identified as a 60-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man, both residents of Constantine.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 22-year-old man from White Pigeon, sustained injuries that are not considered life-threatening and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Prior to the crash, deputies had attempted to pull over the Mercedes on US-131 for speeding. However, the driver did not comply, leading to a brief pursuit that ended when deputies lost sight of the vehicle. The crash scene was later discovered after a passerby reported seeing the fleeing Mercedes on Sevison Road.
The investigation revealed that the driver of the Mercedes had a suspended license, and speed is believed to have played a significant role in the crash. Fortunately, all individuals involved were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the incident.
