Clay Township, PA (November 4, 2024) – A dirt bike accident at SwitchbackMX on William Flynn Hwy left a 23-year-old male with a serious leg injury on Sunday, November 3. The incident, which involved a femur fracture, prompted a coordinated response from local emergency stations, including Stations 25, 14, 13, and 99.
Responders arrived shortly after the initial dispatch at 11:23 a.m., finding the patient conscious and alert but suffering from a visibly fractured femur. Due to the location’s rough terrain, larger rescue apparatus could not reach the injured rider, so Station 13 deployed a UTV to access and transport the patient.
To expedite care, the nearest air medical transport, LifeFlight 4 (LF-4), was placed on standby and later requested to proceed to the designated landing zone (LZ) at Station 14. After being stabilized on-site, the injured rider was transported to the LZ via UTV and then flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for further treatment.
Our thoughts are with the injured rider as he receives medical care and begins the recovery process.
