Davenport, FL (November 4, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred Sunday morning in northeast Polk County, resulting in the death of an 84-year-old man. The crash took place around 8:33 a.m. in the Four Corners area, as reported by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene on US Highway 27 at Poitras Two Road to find the elderly man with serious injuries. He was promptly airlifted to a hospital in Osceola County; however, he reportedly died during emergency surgery, according to the sheriff’s office.
The other driver involved in the collision, a 27-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Preliminary investigations revealed that the 84-year-old was attempting to turn left onto Poitras Two Road when he crossed into the path of the oncoming vehicle, resulting in the collision.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, which significantly mitigated the severity of injuries for the younger driver. The incident led to the closure of the southbound lanes of US Highway 27 for approximately three and a half hours as authorities worked to clear the scene and conduct their investigation.
