Sulphur Springs, TX (November 4, 2024) – The Sulphur Springs Independent School District (ISD) is in mourning following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two first graders and their father on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on State Highway 49 in Morris County.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), a GMC Yukon traveling eastbound failed to stay in its lane, resulting in a collision with two oncoming vehicles. The first vehicle involved had three occupants who were subsequently taken to a local hospital for treatment. The second vehicle also contained three individuals; tragically, two were pronounced dead at the scene, while another victim succumbed to their injuries later that night at the hospital.
The driver of the GMC Yukon was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in critical condition. Superintendent Deana Steeber confirmed that the victims who lost their lives in this heartbreaking incident were Rowena Johnson Primary School first graders, Caylee and CJ, along with their father, Craig.
