Newton County, MO (November 2, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision occurred on November 1 at approximately 7:46 p.m. on MO 43, three miles north of Seneca, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The incident was investigated by Trooper M. Coleman and the MCIU Team, including CPL. M. Eden.
According to the crash report, a 2017 Acura MDX, driven by a 52-year-old female from Springfield, MO, was traveling northbound when it collided with a 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by a 77-year-old female from Jay, Oklahoma, who was traveling southbound. The collision occurred in the southbound lane, resulting in extensive damage to both vehicles, which were towed by Doug’s Towing.
The driver of the Acura sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital Joplin via Newton County Ambulance. An adult male passenger, aged 60, also from Springfield, MO, suffered minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital.
Tragically, the driver of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, the 77-year-old female, was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Coroner Jeremy Deems at 7:46 p.m. An adult female occupant in the Trailblazer, aged 71, sustained serious injuries and was also transported to Mercy Hospital Joplin.
This incident marks Troop D’s 95th fatality for 2024, and authorities have notified the next of kin. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
