Mackinaw, IL (October 31, 2024) – A tragic incident occurred early Monday evening when a rural Mackinaw man was found unresponsive in a shed that had caught fire. The Tazewell County Coroner, Charles Hanley, reported that Nathan Robertson, 43, was discovered by first responders shortly after the fire department received the call at approximately 6:45 PM.
Upon arrival, emergency personnel found Robertson in the shed on Hild Road, just north of Mackinaw. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 8:15 PM. Preliminary autopsy results indicated that the cause of death was due to smoke and soot inhalation, highlighting the dangers associated with fire incidents.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire is ongoing, with the coroner’s office, Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office, State Fire Marshal, and Illinois State Police all involved in determining the cause and origin of the fire.
