Saint James, NY (October 30, 2024) – A serious two-car accident occurred on October 29, 2024, injuring a man and his three children, as well as seriously injuring another driver. The incident took place around 6 PM on Middle Country Road, near the intersection of Lake Avenue.
According to the Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad, Jean Rendel, 40, of Coram, was driving a 2004 Honda Accord westbound on Middle Country Road when he collided with a 2024 Chevrolet Sonic. The Chevrolet, driven by Marek Dekornic, 68, of Port Jefferson, was traveling eastbound and attempting to make a left turn onto Lake Avenue at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders transported Dekornic to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is receiving treatment for serious injuries. Rendel and his three children, ages 7, 9, and 11, were also taken to the same hospital, but their injuries were reported as minor.
Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded for safety checks as part of the ongoing investigation. Detectives are urging anyone with information regarding the crash to contact the Fourth Squad.
