St. Charles, MO (October 29, 2024) – A multi-vehicle collision occurred late Monday night at approximately 10:25 p.m. on Westbound Interstate 70, just west of Cave Springs. The incident involved three vehicles and resulted in injuries, prompting a response from local emergency services.
Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicles involved were a 2008 Mercury Mariner, a 2010 Mazda 3, and a 2025 Peterbilt truck, all traveling westbound in the second lane of three. According to the investigation, the driver of the Mercury Mariner, 37-year-old Daniel J. Ossola from Saint Louis, stopped due to congestion ahead. The driver of the Mazda 3, 37-year-old Cassandra L. Wamser, also from Saint Louis, slowed down in response. However, the front of the Mercury struck the rear of the Mazda, causing it to be pushed into the towed unit of the Peterbilt truck, driven by 32-year-old Miroslav Prudnikov from Brooklyn, NY.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assess the situation and provide medical assistance. Cassandra Wamser sustained injuries in the collision and was transported by St. Charles County Ambulance District to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Peters for further evaluation and care. Both the Mercury Mariner and the Mazda 3 were towed from the scene due to extensive damage, while the Peterbilt truck sustained moderate damage but was driven from the scene.
Authorities temporarily blocked off a portion of the interstate to ensure the safety of all involved and to facilitate the emergency response. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision is ongoing, as law enforcement gathers additional details about the events leading up to the crash.
